Colorado Trophy Elk Bowhunts

Colorado archery Elk hunts continue to be one of our most popular September adventures. Colorado’s Elk population continues to be the largest in North America and the area our outfitter operates in is among the most populated in the State. This outfit has been guiding successful archery Elk hunters for several years now. You will be bowhunting managed private land in GMU’s 411, 521, 52, 53 and 62. Camp is only about an hour or so away from Grand Junction or Montrose Colorado, THE HEART OF ELK COUNTRY. Our outfitter also operates in two of the most sought after trophy units in Colorado, GMU’s 61 and 40. His knowledge of these two units is what separates him from many other outfitters in these units and has guided in 40 for many years. This outfitter operates on approximately 2,500 acres of QUALITY PRIVATE LAND that consistently holds Elk. Low hunter numbers and the right ground at the right time are keys to his clients continued success. He also operates on BLM and National Forest land, some of which is land locked. His primary focus is guiding his clients wherever the Elk are and moving with the Elk. Be prepared to bowhunt ALL DAY if need be. This is true western Elk hunting in magnificent country.

This bowhunters paradise consists of  The Grand Mesa and is the largest flat top mountain in the world, with over 300 lakes spread about the massive 350,000 acre wilderness. This creates an excellent environment for Colorado’s elk herd to live and flourish and it helps keep Rocky Mountain Elk numbers at record highs. Make no mistake, though the Grand Mesa may be considered a “flat top” mountain, it is still home to some very rugged elk country. With elevations ranging from 5,500′ to 10,000′, you should expect to find elk living at every elevation in between. You will find farm ground around the 5,500′ elevation mark and from there you get into Sagebrush and Oak Brush, then as you continue to gain elevation you will begin seeing Pinon and Juniper trees in the landscape. With the climb in elevation you will end up in the beautiful Aspen and Spruce mountain valleys

One of the most important and intricate pieces of any guided hunt’s puzzle is the guide. This outfitter is well aware of this when it comes to guiding bowhunters and his crew are more than capable of tucking you in close for a realistic shot opportunity. This outfit is run by an accomplished bowhunter  who enjoys taking bowhunters into the field each and every year. So rest assured you will be bowhunting with people who know how to get you that precious shot opportunity. The rest will be up to you. The units you will be hunting are all over the counter with the exception 61 and 40. The genetics for a good P&Y class bull Elk are there. With a 4 point minimum imposed by the State of Colorado your chance of getting a shot opportunity at a bull that will make an excellent mount and perhaps even make the P&Y record book are a realistic goal to have. We are anticipating our clients to get shot opportunities on bulls from 230″ – 280″ P&Y. A top end bull for this area will most likely be in the 300″ – 310″ range. While they are not in every canyon and field they do exist in the vast area you will be bowhunting. Some of the private land leases you will be on border BLM lands. In some instances if the Elk go onto those areas we can still pursue them over the fence. These hunts are limited to no more then 2 bowhunters at a time unless special arrangements are made for a group of 3 – 4. The standard guide ratio is 2 on 1 but can be upgraded to 1 on 1 for an additional cost.

Truck and UTV’s are the normal mode of transportation but horses may possibly be used in limited situations. We want everyone to feel comfortable with this hunt and we welcome handicapped hunters as well as young people 12 years of age and older to come and enjoy a hunt. This outfit strives for 5 star hospitality. You will no doubt enjoy plenty of excellent food at the end of a long day in the field. Coming back to share your story with the others in camp while your enjoying some great cooking is an excellent way to end the day. Lodging will consist of a house type of camp where a hot meal and shower can be found at the end of each day.  However, there is the possibility that we will hunt from a tent camp or camp trailer depending on the hunts you choose. A majority of our trophy elk hunting is conducted on private land.

Bowhunts are for 5 full days. You will need to arrive the day before your hunt starts and depart the day after your bowhunt concludes. Airport pickup and return to Grand Junction or Montrose, Colorado are included in the price. This archery Elk hunt is over the counter so you will not need to draw a tag unless you want to try and draw unit’s 61 or 40 (WE MAY BE ABLE TO SECURE YOU A VOUCHER FOR THESE TWO UNITS, COST IS TYPICALLY $5,000 – $10,000), These are exceptional units and if you are building points for Colorado you need to contact us. This is just another reason as to why Colorado is so appealing to many of our clients each season.

We are certain that if you are looking for an affordable archery Elk hunt that is still centered on quality bowhunting on PRIVATE LAND as well as public, then this bowhunt should be at the top of your list. We fill up prime time weeks of the rut well in advance of the season so if you are seriously considering this adventure you should contact us right away. Hunting the bugling bulls of Western Colorado will be sure to get your blood pumping and raise your heart beat as the adrenaline starts surging. Shot opportunity runs high on these bowhunts most years when mother nature cooperates and the client is prepared to shoot!! I want to emphasize that you must be prepared to WORK HARD and hunt all day. Colorado archery Elk hunting is good but NOT EASY!! Keep in mind that you may also opt to purchase a Mule Deer tag as well as a Black Bear tag as September is a very good time for these species to be bowhunted as well. We hope you will join us out in the beautiful State of Colorado for an Elk hunting adventure you will never forget. Let’s go bowhunting!!

Best regards, Scott & R.L.
