Alaska Trophy Arctic Grizzly Guided Bowhunts are a spot and stalk specialty of our outfitter. He has taken several Arctic Grizzly (Interior Grizzly) himself with stick and string and knows exactly what it takes to get within range of one of these incredible trophies. Grizzly is often harder to hunt than the Brown Bears of the islands and coastline due to the terrain they inhabit which is much more open country in some areas and they are usually scattered about versus being concentrated in an area. It takes a lot of glassing and patience to find a mature Boar and once you do then the stalk is on. These Bears are often one of the last species a bowhunter chasing the slam will fill due to their difficulty. That being said if you hunt with the right outfit you are gonna get your chance at stalks. That’s where we come in as we have the PERFECT GRIZZLY OPTION FOR YOU.

These Arctic Grizzly Bear hunts take place on the Southern Slopes of the Central Brooks Range. Mature bears in this area are 6-8 feet squared and come in a wide variety of colors from blonde, brown, silver, to almost black. Hunts are spot and stalk and typically require many hours of glassing each day. For bowhunters they often hunt from the lodge in Wiseman, Alaska which is located within the Dalton Highway Control Use Area, and is the LARGEST BOWHUNTING ONLY AREA IN THE WORLD! In late August and early September the Bears are typically transitioning from berries along the high hillsides to roots along the river valley floors, and alluvial fans. This is when they conduct most of their Grizzly hunts.

Spot and stalk hunting for Grizzly is not for the faint of heart. These are big Bears and getting close to them on their level is much different than buck fever when a shooter comes underneath your tree stand. These Bears can be dangerous and should be treated as such when hunting them with pointy sticks. Shots will most likely be in the 30 - 50+ yard category, but clients have gotten top pin close…it just all depends on that given stalk and situation. Grizzly have big front ends with big bones so you really need to know your Grizz anatomy. A heavier arrow is beneficial with a strong cut on contact head being best case scenario while lighter gear still takes a fare share of bruins these days. Practice is key, but practice in situations that introduce stress. Shooting in 3D competitions is a great way to kick your brain into high gear while learning to tame your emotions at the same time. The vast majority of the time, Grizzlies do not charge after a good shot. If they do charge, though, you need to be prepared to deal with it. Because their speed is hard to exaggerate, you need to be completely focused. A double-lunged Grizzly will usually be dead within 50 yards or so, but a poorly placed shot can be disastrous. If you’re shooting the right setup, and ice runs through your veins, you are probably ready for the challenge. But keep practicing, because that one shot will make the difference between a dream trip of a lifetime and a very bad day.

BOWHUNTING FOR TROPHY GRIZZLY is not for everyone, but for those that are willing to take on the difficult challenge of bowhunting these gorgeous Bears you could be rewarded with a hunt you will never forget, and an incredibly beautiful trophy that will be remembered for a lifetime. There is something very different about bowhunting a predator who is the TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN. Once you do it you will see why it’s a bowhunt unlike any other on the planet, all while being in truly breath taking country.

Wolf can be harvested for free and do not currently require a tag. Black Bear may be harvested for a trophy fee of $1000. Grizzly can also be added to any of the Sheep or Moose hunts for a trophy fee of $5000 upon harvest. Grizzly can be hunted alone or done as a longer combo hunt for Sheep and or Moose.
